community

From community gardening, backpacking trips, summer internships, college dorm experience, there are many ways to interact with others in an intentional, real, and vulnerable way. And that kind of interaction, where we feel safe being vulnerable, is what brings us closer, and ultimately keeps us healthy. And that is what we will work diligently to establish and nurture at Research Residences. Having 16 years experience running the Golden Community Garden we have learned a bit about building community.Thank you for looking.ps - Our research led to an interesting example of community building in America. Read on if you're interested!Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs)For many Black students, attending an HBCU is about more than just education—it’s about community, culture, and a deep sense of belonging. It's said that HBCUs provide a space where students don’t have to constantly navigate racial identity the way they might at predominantly white institutions (PWIs).That makes a lot of sense, and wow, it's powerful! We will create a space where all feel welcome.

Zero Energy Ready Home

Living in a Zero Energy Ready HomeMost conversations about Zero Energy Ready Homes (ZERH) focus on efficiency, sustainability, and cost savings. But what often gets overlooked is one of the biggest benefits: comfort. Living in a ZERH isn’t just about reducing energy use—it’s about creating a better living experience every day.Why Zero Energy Ready Homes Feel DifferentA ZERH is designed to meet advanced energy efficiency and indoor air quality standards. That means it isn’t just an energy-efficient house—it’s a home that actively works to keep you comfortable year-round. Here’s why:1. Consistent Indoor TemperaturesTraditional homes often have hot and cold spots, forcing you to adjust thermostats or bundle up in certain rooms. In contrast, ZERHs use high-performance insulation, advanced windows, and airtight construction to keep temperatures stable throughout the home. No more freezing in the basement or sweating upstairs in summer.2. Better Indoor Air QualityEver noticed how some homes feel stuffy or dusty? That’s often due to poor ventilation and leaky construction. ZERHs incorporate balanced ventilation systems with high-efficiency air filtration—meaning you get cleaner air, fewer allergens, and better humidity control. The result? You breathe easier and sleep better.3. Superior Noise ReductionThanks to airtight construction and high-performance materials, ZERHs naturally block out exterior noise. Whether you live in a busy neighborhood or near a highway, a well-built ZERH provides a quieter, more peacefulindoor environment.4. No More Drafts or Cold FloorsA poorly insulated home lets air sneak in through cracks, causing uncomfortable drafts and chilly floors in winter. ZERHs eliminate these problems with tight air sealing and superior insulation, so every step feels warm, even on the coldest mornings.5. Smarter Energy Use = More ControlZERHs often include individual air source heat pumps in each room. This means your home adapts keeps you comfortable without requiring constant adjustments. Plus, you spend less on energy bills while enjoying a more predictable and stable home climate.Comfort That LastsMany people assume that energy-efficient homes require sacrifices in comfort, but the reality is the opposite: a well-designed ZERH enhances your daily life. You get to enjoy a home that is warmer in winter, cooler in summer, quieter, and healthier to live in—all while saving money and reducing your environmental impact. So the next time someone talks about Zero Energy Ready Homes, don’t just think about efficiency. Think about what it means to truly live in a home that’s built for comfort, health, and long-term well-being.
